These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of thelnmag.com and the LNmag digital magazine (the "Site," "we," "us," or "LNmag"), operated as an independent, small-team publication. By visiting, reading, submitting content to, or purchasing a listing or placement on the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site.
You must be at least 13 years old to use this Site, and at least 18 to submit paid content (Directory, Classifieds, Events, or advertising) or to make a purchase. If you're between 13 and 18, please only use the Site's reading and browsing features.
Articles, essays, photography, illustrations, and other editorial content on this Site are owned by LNmag or by the individual contributors credited on them, and are protected by copyright. You're welcome to read, share links to, and quote brief excerpts of our work with attribution. Reproducing, republishing, or distributing full articles or images without our written permission isn't allowed.
If you pitch or submit a story, essay, photo, comment, Directory or Classifieds listing, Event listing, or anything else to us, you're telling us it's your own original work (or that you have the right to share it), and you're giving LNmag permission to edit, publish, and display it on the Site and in related promotion (like social media or a newsletter). You keep ownership of what you submit — we're not taking that from you — but once something is published, we may keep it live indefinitely as part of the historical record, consistent with our own editorial practice of keeping past issues live rather than taking them down (see our About page).
You're responsible for what you submit. Don't submit anything that's false, defamatory, harassing, infringing on someone else's rights, or that you don't have permission to share. We reserve the right to edit for length and clarity, decline, or remove any submission, at our discretion, and we'll generally tell you why if we do.
Business Directory, Classifieds, and Events listings are submitted by readers and businesses, and paid placements (including featured listings) follow the rates published on our Advertise page at the time of purchase. We list things in good faith based on what's submitted to us, but we don't independently verify every business, organization, or event listed, and a listing isn't an endorsement. Listings are reviewed before publishing and we can decline or remove one at any time — for example, if it turns out to be inaccurate, misleading, or in violation of these Terms. Paid listings are generally non-refundable once published, except at our discretion (for example, if we make an error).
This Site links out to a lot of things we don't run — Directory and Events organizations, ticketing tools like Give Lively, search tools like Meetup, calendars like IGLTA's, streaming and purchase links for movie reviews, payment tools like PayPal and GoFundMe, and more. We link to these because we think they're useful or relevant, not because we control, vouch for, or are responsible for what happens on them. Once you leave thelnmag.com, that site's own terms and privacy practices apply, not ours.
Advertising, sponsorships, and paid listings are billed at the rates on our Advertise page, which may change over time (we'll honor the rate in effect when you paid). Where payment is handled through a third-party tool like PayPal, that transaction is between you and that provider under their own terms; we aren't a bank or payment processor.
Some links on this Site — including in banner ads, and potentially in articles or other content over time — are affiliate or referral links, meaning we may earn a commission, referral bonus, or similar compensation if you make a purchase or sign up after clicking through, at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. Anywhere an affiliate or referral link appears, we label it as an ad or affiliate link at the time. Being an affiliate link doesn't change our editorial judgment about what we choose to feature.

We're a small, independent, largely volunteer-run publication. We do our best to be accurate, keep things updated, and keep the Site running, but the Site and everything on it — including Directory listings, Event details, dates, prices, and outside links — is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. We recommend confirming anything time- or safety-sensitive (an event's date, a business's hours, a listing's details) directly with the source before you rely on it.
To the fullest extent allowed by law, LNmag and the people who work on it aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Site, a listing, an outside link, or anything published here. Nothing in these Terms is meant to limit liability where the law doesn't allow it to be limited.
If you believe something on this Site infringes your copyright, contact us with a description of the work, its location on our Site, and your contact information, and we'll look into it promptly.
We may update these Terms as the Site grows and changes — for example, as we add self-serve submission tools or new sections. We'll update the date at the top of this page when we do. Continuing to use the Site after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
We don't have a separate Privacy Policy page yet, so here's the short version: if you use our contact form or sign up for the newsletter, we use your email only to respond to you or send the newsletter you signed up for — we don't sell your information to third parties. Paid listings and advertising handled through PayPal are subject to PayPal's own privacy practices, not ours. If you have questions about your data, reach out.

We consider AI to be one utility of many. In fashioning tools — and especially in the age of computing — we've always had AI, automation, or programming on hand in some form: recommendation engines, auto-tagging, spellcheck, mastering assistance. What's changed recently is the scale and visibility of it, not whether it exists.
Distributors, video platforms, and social apps have gotten increasingly aggressive about labeling content as AI-made — and increasingly imprecise about it. We've experienced this directly: a photo we made by hand gets marked by a distributor's AI filter as AI-generated. A video posted online gets called "AI" by viewers when it wasn't. Use AI at any single stage — editing, color correction, captioning, scheduling — and the whole piece tends to get filed under "AI-made," regardless of how much of it was human work. There's currently no clean, reliable way to signal "made by a person, AI used to refine it" to these systems. That may well change as detection improves — this reflects where things stand right now, not a permanent state of affairs.
Our position: we individually author, design, draft, edit, and launch our own work. Every person on this team has real coding and editorial experience that predates the current AI wave. We're AI-affirming — we use AI tools to refine our process and sharpen our output — but authorship is ours. AI involvement at a given stage doesn't change who made something; it changes how efficiently they made it.
To be clear about how we use it: AI's role here is primarily editorial — helping refine, research, and sharpen work a person already wrote or made, not composing something from a blank page in our place. That distinction matters given the detection landscape described above, where any AI involvement at all tends to get flattened into "the whole thing is AI-made." That flattening isn't accurate, and it isn't our practice. If you're ever concerned about a specific piece of content on this site — whether something reads as AI-generated in full, or anything else about how a piece was made — reach out to our editorial team directly. We'd rather answer a real question than leave anyone guessing.
