The Role
The company is looking for a highly motivated, hands-on Assistant Operations Manager to support the Senior Vice President of Operations with day-to-day logistics, fleet coordination, and plant operations. The right candidate is currently working on fishing vessels (as a fisherman, deckhand, or similar) and is ready to move from the water to the docks. This is not a desk-only role: you will be in the warehouse and on the dock, coordinating freight, solving problems in real time, and building relationships with fishermen and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the delivery of fish, bait, and supplies between vessels, docks, and processing plants
- Support scheduling and logistics for active commercial fishing vessels
- Work closely with the Senior VP of Operations to keep operations running smoothly across the fleet and the plant
- Help organize freight movement along the coast (trucks, shipments, and so on)
- Jump in hands-on with the production and warehouse teams as needed (unloading, palletizing, and similar tasks)
- Operate a forklift, or be trained to operate one
- Keep communication strong with fishermen, suppliers, and internal departments
- Support order assembly and make sure outgoing shipments are accurate
- Solve logistical problems in real time as they come up
- Handle administrative and coordination tasks, including data entry and documentation
Requirements
- Direct, hands-on experience working aboard commercial fishing vessels (for example, fisherman, deckhand, or vessel crew). This is required.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- A high level of initiative, accountability, and self-motivation
- Ability to work autonomously and think ahead
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Team-oriented with a hands-on mindset
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
Nice to Have
- Experience in logistics, operations, or supply chain
- Forklift experience, or willingness to get certified
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Work Environment and Schedule
Monday to Friday with flexible hours (typically about 8:00am to 4:30pm), plus occasional weekend work during peak seasons. The work is split between the office, plant floor, warehouse, and dock, and no two days are the same.
