Your Neighbor's Dog Learned Your Name, and Other Small Wins

A reader wrote in just to say her downstairs neighbor's dog now does a full-body wiggle every time it hears her keys, and asked if that counted as a submission. It does. That's the whole bar for Twee: cute, small, doesn't need a lesson attached.

Also on the list this week: a stranger returned a lost cardigan to a bar's lost-and-found with a note that just said "hope this finds its person, literally," a group chat successfully coordinated a surprise plant-sitting rotation for a friend's surgery recovery without a single scheduling meltdown, and someone's ex showed up to their art show and said something genuinely nice, unprompted.

More small wins, because they kept coming in: a barista got a customer's chosen name right on the first try, spelled it right too, and didn't make a thing of it. A mom who has been "still getting used to it" for two years texted "wait, who's Priya again?" and then, eleven minutes later, sent a single heart with no other context, which the recipient is choosing to interpret as full arrival. Somebody's elderly neighbor started leaving extra zucchini on the porch after learning they'd gotten married — no card, no comment, just an unreasonable quantity of zucchini, which is apparently how some people say congratulations.

Also: a lesbian bar's group chat organized a coat drive for a local shelter in under ten minutes flat, with zero infighting about logistics, which anyone who has ever been in a group chat knows is basically a miracle. A trans guy's barber, unprompted, started using a slightly deeper voice for his haircut small talk once his voice started changing, like he'd been quietly keeping pace the whole time. And a couple celebrating their tenth anniversary got applauded by an entire diner at 1 a.m. when the waitress found out and announced it to the room — free pie included, no one asked for a speech, everyone got one anyway.
